Using the Acrobat Reader

Hi everybody! In my last post, Who is Job: Edom and Uz?, I provided several “pdf” files for downloading or viewing. However, it’s come to my attention that some people are not aware of how to use the Adobe Acrobat reader. I apologize for that, but since some of the pdf’s contained small print, I chose to use the Acrobat reader (instead of images), because it has a zoom in and zoom out feature. So this post is for those of you who need a bit of “how-to.” By the way, if you need the free Adobe reader to follow along with this example, you can get that by clicking here.

So here’s an example:

Abraham To Joseph: Birth, Events, and Deaths Timeline pdfI created a Timeline chart to show the biblical ages of the Patriarchs at specific events. Now, because I wanted that chart to be able to be printed on a common printer, I had size constraints I had to deal with. This resulted in some very small print. If you use the zoom feature on the Adobe reader, that’s not a problem, because it will “zoom” in for you and enlarge everything as big as you like.

So there are two main ways to do this. If you have the Adobe Acrobat reader on your computer, then you probably don’t need to load the new one; you should be all set. The easiest way to check that is to just click on the Timeline chart link and wait to see if the reader opens. If it does, you’re all set. If not, download the free reader by clicking here. To install, please follow the step-by-step instructions that appear on screen.

Once you’ve got the document open on your computer, then you can simultaneously hit the Ctrl-S keys and save it to your computer. If you prefer to print it, simultaneously hit the Ctrl-P keys and use your printer to print it.

To use the “zoom” feature on the Acrobat Reader X Version, first open the document, then take your computer mouse and go to the area around the bottom of the page and hover around the middle section there. You should see some icons that will appear as you hover your mouse over them. I believe there is a floppy disk icon for “Save,” a printer looking icon for “Print,” a page number selection icon, a plus sign (+) for zooming in and an minus sign (-) for zooming out. Simply click on the plus sign (+) icon to zoom in and the minus sign (-) to zoom out.

For more advanced users, there’s a third way to download and that is to right click on the thumbnail image above, select the “Save target as…” option and save it to your computer.

I hope that helps anyone who wasn’t familiar with the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

God bless you all and Peace out!

Loris
